If you are living, eating, and breathing on this earth, you have struggled with low self esteem at least a dozen times in your life. I know I have. I remember getting picked on when I was young about how light skinned I was and how’s big my nose was. All throughout my life I carried these torments with me and even into child bearing I remember praying to God that he would give my son his dad’s nose instead of mine. Of course he looks just like me and has the cursed Frazier nose. I concern about how he may be bullied throughout his life for the same things I was. Of course we all as parents want our children to experience the least struggle in their lives and live a better life than we did. Even to this day, if someone were to say anything minutely as a joke about my nose I instantly get defensive and plot retaliation. I’m still a work in progress.
The fact of the matter is we all have something of ourselves that we are not proud of and wish we could change whether it be internal or external. We all may put on a facade and try to make people think we are fine and not effected but truly deep down in the inside we all want to fix ourselves in a sense. We go through so much just to look how we think the world would accept us. We get fake boobs, fake butts, lip fillers, tummy tucks, nose jobs, if we have straight hair we want curly, hell even eye surgery to change our eye color permanently! I mean the list goes on but the fact of the matter is, we are struggling with the identity that God gave us. We want more, we want better.
The issue lies that we are still being deceived by the enemy and still falling for the same old tricks that Adam and Eve fell for. You see, we start out with something good and un-corrupted, then the enemy comes along when we are in the right place a the right time and vulnerable. He whispers the lies he knows we are most susceptible to and trips us up into taking the bait. It’s a sad sad story that we have yet to learn our lesson from.
Have you ever asked yourself who you were really trying to please? If you get that corrective surgery done, then what? You’ll be perfect? You’ll be satisfied? Rude awakening my friend, more torment is going to come your way. You see you took the bait, the enemy has even more torment for you on the other side of that bait. Adam and Eve’s were that they were going to die, childbirth would be painful for Eve, etc. etc. etc. as a result. If you take the bait I can almost guarantee you more torment is going to come on this side. Just think of all the bullying that goes on with celebrities that have undergone plastic surgery. That’s the flaw everyone else wants to grab hold to and drag them through the mud for. They’re labeled “fake, fake, fake”. It’s like you’re damned if you do damned if you don’t.
I just wanted to take the time and write this post and encourage you to learn how to accept your identity. The Lord CAREFULLY fashioned us. Everything we were knit with was for a well thought out reason. I was born with this nose and skin tone to build character and confidence in my formation. My boyfriend absolutely loves my nose and the little things I hate about myself like my stomach pudge. He wouldn’t dare allow me to change it because that makes me…..ME!!!
The things we think are burdens could actually be the one thing our neighbor may be praying to have. I encourage us all to accept what we currently have because it’s a lesson in it. I want you to contemplate what the lessons are you need to learn in conjunction to your “flaws”.
Here’s another point, the WORLD tells you it’s a flaw. Who does the WORLD belong to my friend? Satan!!! He is behind the beauty industry and music industry and so much more because that’s what we are drawn to. He can do whatever he wants to to place deception in our minds. We have to learn quickly how to strengthen ourselves and build ourselves up. That is the season I am in right now, I am learning the lies of the enemy and where he usually trips me personally up, and wherever I am most weak at, I am praying over that thing with a vengeance and realizing I have to listen to God to see how to better maneuver him the next time. In return, I am learning how to work better with what I’ve got and highlight my weaknesses into strengths. I pose to you, if your weaknesses are now strengths? What does the Devil have over you? Join me in this fight of our TRUE identities, we are more than conquerors and we have work to be done.
