This is my very first journey update. Exciting right? So how far have I come?
A few blog posts back (DEATH TO THE DREAMER) I revealed that I took my first step and crucified the dreamer within myself. I also took a leap of faith and started this blog. I have to be honest…..I sometimes struggle with consistency. The problem is…. My mind knows what I want to START doing, but sometimes executing my thoughts and plans don’t happen as I intended. Usually life happens and I usually say to myself….. “Surely I’ll be fine if I skip just this one night.” But then the next night and the next night I’m still saying the same thing and before you know it, my initial intentions are just a far, distant….. DREAM! So to answer that question…… The journey starting out has been pretty rocky.
In knowing that I have to be intentional in order to succeed in my aspirations, I’ve started small. I’ve required little of myself until I get the hang of this new journey. For instance, as far as my blog goes, I’ve set a daily reminder (close to the time I’m giving my son a bath or putting him to bed) to work on my business. This reminder is set for me to work on my blog for at least 15 minutes per day at night time. Sometimes if I’m feeling like an overachiever, I’ll go for 30 minutes to an hour just depending on my drive and inspiration that day. It is better for me if I spread tasks out over time instead of trying to cram and rush. If I’m not working on making a blog post, I’m editing my website design, learning the software, reading tips on how to be a better blogger, making checklists of things I would like to accomplish, getting inspired by viewing different blog sites, the list goes on. I realize that knowledge is power and is right at our fingertips and most of all it is FREE! Nevertheless, I’m intentionally doing SOMETHING that can improve my journey for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes per day.
Little by little, I have been talking to people in my close circle and telling them that I have started a blog. To my surprise, they have all given me so much insight, encouragement, knowledge, and even connects that could aid me in my growth. The power of opening your mouth is real!!
To recap, so far I have created a variety of blog posts, found my preferred blogging style, and created and published my website. I’d say that’s a pretty good start since I’ve only been at this for a few weeks. My goal is to have at least 20 blog posts and at least a small following by the time I am ready to do my next check-in for the next JOURNEY UPDATE.
Hopefully this inspired and encouraged someone to start small or at least, START. I would love to get some feedback on how you think I’m doing. Feel free to comment or contact me with your thoughts!
